The Community Foundation of Northern Kentucky was formed in 2008 to support the Northern Kentucky community. When The St. Luke Hospitals merged with St. Elizabeth Healthcare, the Foundation repurposed its mission to serve the entire community. The foundation assumed administrative and financial oversight of the Northern Kentucky Children’s Advocacy Center, and Women’s Health of Northern Kentucky. Before 2008, the Foundation operated as St. Luke Hospital Community Foundation, supporting St. Luke Hospital programs.
As a newly formed nonprofit, the foundation saw a need for an independent fundraising council, and in 2009, The Advocates were formed to support primarily the Children’s Advocacy Center.
In July 2011, the Community Foundation of Northern Kentucky assumed administrative and financial oversight of the former services of Cardinal Hill of Northern Kentucky – Adult Day Care of Northern Kentucky and Speech and Hearing of Northern Kentucky. In August 2011, Cynthia Lawhorn Williams joined the foundation as CEO.
