The Charlene Erler Legacy Award

In 2009, the Community Foundation of Northern Kentucky Board of Directors created the Charlene Erler Legacy Award to recognize outstanding service to the Community Foundation. It is presented annually at the Foundation’s signature event, the Ghoulish Gala, hosted by The Advocates to benefit the Northern Kentucky Children’s Advocacy Center.

2012 Recipients

Richard & JoAnn Knock

The Knocks were recognized with the 2012 Charlene Erler Legacy Award, in appreciation for their friendship, support and care of the Northern Kentucky Children's Advocacy Center, Community Services of Northern Kentucky and Community Foundation of Northern Kentucky. In accepting the award, the Knocks said, “We feel truly blessed to be able to contribute to this very
important service.” The award is named in honor of Charlene Erler, the board chair of Community Foundation of Northern Kentucky and the award’s first recipient.

2011 Recipients

Dr. Phil & Barb Lichtenstein

Dr. Phil Lichtenstein has worked with the Children’s Advocacy Center since its beginnings in 1987 as the Community Pediatric Clinic. He served as its first medical director and continued in that role until 2004 and still serves as part of the medical staff. Dr. Lichtenstein is committed to ensuring that these abused children receive the most comprehensive medical services possible. He has always put the needs of families and children first. Mrs. Lichtenstein designed the center’s new building, which opened in 2009. Barb constantly asked two questions: ‘What will make the children feel the most comfortable and at ease?’ and ‘What will the professionals need to do the best job possible in protecting kids in Northern Kentucky?’ Armed with these answers, she worked with the team to design a facility that architects and builders turned into reality.

2010 Recipient

Rick Daniels

The president of Furniture Fair and a long time generous supporter of the Community Foundation earned the award in 2010. For many years, he has donated $10,000 gift certificates to the Foundation, and the funds they have helped us raise are a part of his legacy to the community and to the work of the Foundation.

2009 Recipient

Charlene Erler

The first and current present chair of the board of the Communitiy Foundation of Northern Kentucky received the inaugural award, which was then named in her honor. The award was presented to her in recognition of more than 25 years of service on the predecessor board and her critical role in the creation of the new Community Foundation, and in shepherding it through its first years.
